ENCATE Introduces New Steering Committee

ENCATE introduced its new Steering Committee following an internal election process to guide the network in 2024-25.

Berlin, January 08, 2023 — The ENCATE network announced its new Steering Committee following an internal election process to guide the network in 2024-25. The network unites European civil society organizations working to address antisemitism and discrimination through educational initiatives and various programs.

As outlined in the announcement, three seasoned members of the previous committee, Ali Amla, Anna Zielińska and Dr. Juliane Wetzel will continue their impactful work, joined by two new members, Murilo Cambruzzi of the CDEC Foundation and Tamas Buchler of the Haver Foundation.

The collective expertise of these members spans years of dedicated efforts in analyzing and countering antisemitism, along with a commitment to addressing various forms of prejudice and hatred.

Ali Amla

Ali Amla

United Kingdom

Ali is currently the Youth and Partnerships Director at Solutions Not Sides. He excels at managing community projects and media engagement forums to prevent issues such as Islamophobia. Ali has a strong track record in research, activism, and training and has excellent communication, negotiation and networking skills. He will bring his expertise to educational programs on the Israel-Palestine conflict, interfaith activism and understanding the intersections of antisemitism and Islamophobia.

Anna Zielińska

Poland

A dedicated board member of the Jewish Association Czulent since 2018, Anna emerges as a experienced professional deeply engaged in international issues of tolerance and non-discrimination. Her previous advisory roles, including the one at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, underscore her commitment to challenging antisemitism and discrimination through complex projects. As a Jewish community activist and legal expert, Anna brings her experience in programming, organizing and advocacy to ENCATE.

Dr. Juliane Wetzel

Juliane, a board member of KIgA e.V. and a member of the German delegation to the IHRA, chairs the IHRA‘s Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial since 2021. With over two decades of experience as a senior researcher and academic staff member at the Center for Research on Antisemitism at TU Berlin, Juliane’s extensive publishing encompasses works on contemporary antisemitism, right-wing extremism, Jewish persecution, and emigration. Her profound academic understanding, coupled with an international network of partners, expands ENCATE’s capabilities in addressing antisemitism and Holocaust distortion.

Murilo Cambruzzi

Murilo is a researcher at the Observatory of Antisemitism of the CDEC Foundation. In his current role, he has gained extensive experience in monitoring and researching antisemitism. He has published several monitoring reports on the issue, delving into the complexities of the phenomenon in Italy and on online platforms. Murilo will bring evidence-based thinking and understanding to the current manifestations and trends of antisemitism.

Tamas Buchler

Tamas Buchler

Hungary

As a board member of the Haver Foundation and European Programmes Coordinator at Minority Rights Group, Tamas has extensive experience in project management and evaluation in the EU and the US. His pivotal roles in important Jewish organizations, including CEJI, Budapest Israeli Cultural Institute, and Rene Cassin UK, demonstrate Tamas’s community building, fundraising, and networking skills - skills he will bring to ENCATE.
