ENCATE Stakeholder Meeting 2020: Countering Antisemitism through Education

ENCATE evaluated education efforts to address antisemitism alongside practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders.

November 4, 2025 — Unquestionably, the COVID-19 pandemic topped the list of events in any almanac of 2020. It had severe effects on daily life, the workplace, the economy, politics, and health. As civil organizations in ENCATE, we also faced significant challenges in our educational work addressing antisemitism and bias. Besides the challenges of not being able to work in person with our constituencies, the social issues we tackled became more complicated – this year bore insane plots like a sinister plan to implant microchips using vaccines. Of course, the same old antisemitic tropes increasingly got their share. This meeting was an opportunity to approximate the educational practice and policies about antisemitism and to emphasize the role of ENCATE as a vital partner representing civil society organizations in more than 12 European countries.

We have several questions for which we are seeking answers:

  • Which challenges have we been facing in our educational programs
against antisemitism and prejudice? What have we learned?
  • Are there any growing trends in antisemitism that we need to put
    in the spotlight?
  • What are the recent steps of European and international organizations addressing antisemitism? How can we make better use of them and urge national authorities to support and facilitate educational programs and civil society?
  • How can we converge educators’ realities with high-level strategies?
  • What are the trends in online hate? What does the last decision of IT companies banning Holocaust denial and promotion of QAnon mean for our work against antisemitism?
  • How should we improve our digital work countering antisemitism? What do we have to unlearn and learn newly?
